Information
In the 2024 UEFA European Championship, 24 teams participate in the main tournament, divided into 6 groups. The top two teams from each group, along with the 4 best-performing third-placed teams, advance to the knockout stage. The 2024 European Championship will be held from June to July in 10 cities in Germany (Berlin, Munich, Dortmund, Gelsenkirchen, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Cologne, Leipzig, Frankfurt), with the final taking place on July 14, 2024, at the Berlin Olympic Stadium.
On October 9, 2022, the draw for the 2024 UEFA European Championship qualifying groups took place in Frankfurt, Germany. 53 teams were divided into 10 groups, with 7 groups containing 5 teams each and 3 groups containing 6 teams each. The top two teams from each group directly qualify. Among the teams in pots 1, 2, and 3 of the UEFA Nations League that did not qualify for the European Championship through the qualifiers and have the highest rankings, 4 teams will compete in two rounds of playoffs for 3 spots. Hosts Germany directly enter the final stage.
The top two teams from each group directly advance to the final stage. Group stage rankings are determined by points, with tiebreakers applied if teams have the same number of points:
a. Head-to-head points between the tied teams..
b. Goal difference in matches between the tied teams.
c. Goals scored in matches between the tied teams.
d. If teams are still tied after applying rules a-c, additional tiebreakers are used.
e. Goal difference in the group stage.
f. Goals scored in the group stage.
g. Away goals scored in the group stage.
h. Fair play points.
i. UEFA ranking.
The final stage of the European Championship begins with the group stage, where 24 teams are divided into 6 groups of 4 teams each. The top two teams from each group, along with the 4 best-performing third-placed teams, advance to the Round of 16. Then, the knockout stage follows.
From the quarterfinals to the final, matches are decided by a single match. If the score is tied at the end of 90 minutes, extra time is played. There are no golden goal or silver goal rules in extra time. Both teams must complete two halves of 15 minutes each. The team with more goals in extra time wins. If the score is still tied after extra time, a penalty shootout determines the winner.
